What You Need for This Workshop:
All you really need for this class is a burner, a piece of wood, and a pencil, but here is the full materials list if you want to be fully prepared!1: Receive a solid beginner foundation
If you are new to woodburning or are just getting started in this art form, then you might be looking for someone to help teach you the basics and get you going. This workshop will teach you the basics of woodburning in a fun, authentic way.
2: You can freehand the design or follow the template.
Because this class is structured as a "follow-along" kind of class, you'll have the opportunity to go big or go home by freehanding the mountain design as we go. It's not hard, I promise! We literally go step by step. It's like a follow-along painting class if you've ever done one of those. Everyone's pieces will look similar but different at the end of the class!
Once you learn my technique for drawing mountains, you'll be making mountains all over everything.
3: You'll get to play with textures.
Textures can really bring your art to life. I'm going to show you some fun textures that will go great with this project. If you choose to bring some scrap wood, you can have some practice time to test out different textures before committing to the main project.
4: You have creative freedom!
You can make your piece however you like. This is a very flexible workshop- meaning there is no right or wrong way to do it and you're not going to "mess it up" if something doesn't turn out the way you wanted. It's a very forgiving project.
5: This piece is done on cherry wood, but you can use whatever wood you want.
The specific wood for this workshop is an 8" x 8" cherry wood panel that we sell on our website, available at itsdavidandrenee.com. You will be bringing whatever wood you want, of whatever size. Basswood slices, cherry panels, whatever! It doesn't matter for this project. You don't need to go out and buy any fancy wood, but you can if you want!
6: BYOB and BYON- Bring Your Own Burner and Bring Your Own Nibs
I will be using an Optima 1 woodburning machine with a burnishing nib, a large skew nib, and ballpoint nibs, but you can use whatever burner and nibs you have and like. Everyone has different machines. Everyone likes different nibs and has their own personal favorites.
